講題:A Model Study of Air-Sea Interactions over the Spring Kuroshio Front in the East China Sea: Modulation of Diurnal Variations in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Boundary Layers

  The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model is coupled with the HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) for use in simulating mesoscale air-sea interactions in the marginal seas surrounding Taiwan. The model-coupling framework is constructed using the Spherical Coordinate Remapping and Interpolation Package (SCRIP) and the Model Coupling Environment Library (MCEL). The SCRIP works for remapping and interpolating fields between the different model grids, the MCEL technique then allows for communication between the running models. The WRF model transfers a set of surface fields to the HYCOM, including momentum, heat, and moisture fluxes. The ocean model is driven by these surface forcings and the resulting bulk SST is then feedback to the atmosphere model. The two-way exchange of parameters via MCEL is performed every coupling interval, which is a function of ocean model time-step. The model coupling system is tested in two scenarios: a persistent marine fog event in the Taiwan Strait and a consequent frontal system swept through the region. In this presentation, diurnal variation is used as a metric to inspect the simulated boundary layers in both models. The modulation of the diurnal variations in the atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers by local air-sea interaction over the spring Kuroshio Front in the East China Sea will be addressed upon two different weather regimes.
