Title:Linear Transient Wave Maker Theories

Abstract:
In this seminar, I will first review the analytical solutions for transient waves generated by a piston-type wave maker in a wave flume. The length of the wave flume could be infinite or finite. The characteristics of the leading wave (wave front) and periodic wave solutions will be discussed. I will then demonstrate that the solutions for wave sloshing problem in a rectangular tank can be constructed by superposing the solutions generated by two wave makers at each end of the tank when they move in phase. The analytical solutions are checked with available experimental data. Different wave fields can be generated in a wave tank with two wave makers with different speed and phase.
