Time:12/27(Tue.)14:00

Place:S-325, Science Building 1

Abstract:

An effective warning system is viewed as the most important health adaptation strategy to minimize heat-health risks under climate change. This presentation will introduce a successful transdisciplinary collaboration on establishing an evidence-based heat-health warning system; weather and health for all. It is a partnership of governmental agencies, academics, and private sectors. The major partners are Health Promotion Administration, HPA; Central Weather Bureau, CWB; and Academia Sinica. The story of establishing a heat-health warning system with a physiological-based heat indicator, Wet-bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), will be unfolded. Timeline of stakeholder interactions and the scientific evidence including WBGT monitoring, WBGT modeling, and heat-health threshold selection will be presented. The established heat waring system is expected to reduce heat-health risks of Taiwanese under climate change.
