Title:Applications of imagery-based quantification techniques in marine engineering, nearshore environment, and atmospheric sciences

Speaker:Assistant Prof. Wei-Liang Chuang

Department of Marine Environment and Engineering, NSYSU

Time:12/29(Tue.)14:00

Place:S-325, Science Building 1

Abstract:

Imagery-based quantification techniques are crucial and popular tools in investigating a variety of scientific and engineering problems, or examining the mathematical description for specific physical and chemical issues. This presentation will be giving some example applications in the fields of marine engineering, nearshore environment, and atmospheric sciences, subtopics including:
  • Extreme wave impacts on offshore structures
  • Tsunami wave impacts on a coastal building
  • Surf-zone bathymetry retrieved from UAS images
  • Most efficient technique in deriving atmospheric motion vectors (AMVs) from satellite images
The core methodology is mostly associated with the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique, which is very mature and widely-used but significant improvement is still allowed.
