Abstract:
In this seminar, I would like to discuss our recent efforts in developing wave models for wave propagation from deep water to nearshore. These models are applicable for non-breaking waves, interacting with currents and bathymetry on a large horizontal domain. The concept of weighted residual method is employed to reduce the physical dimensions, i.e., from 3D to 2DH or from 2D to 1DH and several models with different accuracy are developed. The properties of these models, in terms of frequency dispersion, shoaling and nonlinearity, will be discussed. These models are checked with several 2D and 3D benchmark problems. Very good model/data agreements are observed. A new set of laboratory experiments of self-focusing wave package has been conducted at NUS, and the experimental data are used to further validate the skills of these new wave models.
