Uncertainty, by definition, is a situation which involves imperfect or unknown information. It is an important issue to tackle when we work on a forecasting business. Unfortunately, according to my personal experience, it is a problem never solved because uncertainties come from everywhere. I will share my academic and industrial experiences to explain the lessons I learned and to describe why I pay attention to the consequences instead of the possibilities or the uncertainties. Can we live with the uncertainties to work on the forecasting business? A few of projects will be addressed. For example, a project includes the development of a cyber-physical system and an innovative service business model for disaster relief efforts. Another project is a relief demonstration of large-scale compound disasters across 18 countries. Five large-scale demonstrations in Africa, Middle East, and Asia will be held to address different disasters such as flood, a serious contagious disease, earthquake, etc. After all, I wish you would bring back meaningful thoughts after the presentation. However, “meaning” itself is also within the category of uncertainties.
